A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY ...
Chuck Palahniuk was born in Parco, Washington on February 21, 1962. He was raised by his mother and father for the most part, but because of their constant arguing and domestic issues, when he was around 14 he and his siblings went to go live with their grandparents, where the rest of his life was spent. Both his parents later endured terrible tragedies after their divorce. His father ended up being in a relationship with another girl, only for the both of them to be murdered by her previous boyfriend. Chuck's mother had also fallen ill shortly after that, finally succumbing to cancer and dying. These events obviously had a big impact on him, and in my opinion, they probably had some kind of influence on the dark nature of most of his works. Chuck grew up without a prominent father figure himself, which inspired him to incorporate this in his debut novel, Fight Club.
He soon attended the University of Oregon and graduated in 1986, with a degree in Journalism. From there he got a job working for the local newspaper, but later became a mechanic specializing in bio diesel. He held this job until his career as a novelist was starting to pick up the pace. Chuck had also volunteered his time at several locations, however, his time at escorting dying people to support groups also impacted his life heavily. This event, as well, was an obvious inspiration to incorporating the several support groups that the narrator attends as well.
Later on in his life he was officially a member of the Cacophony Society, which is basically an organization that breaks free from the conventions set in this world, in order to seek beyond the dullness of consumerism as a free spirit. He had regularly taken part in the rebellious activities that this group had organized, purely just for breaking the law. These events were also, an inspiration that was used in Fight Club, as Project Mayhem and Fight Club (to some extent) were a clear imitation of this. He is still considered a member, although his present occupation is now as a novelist. Perhaps, he still advocates the ideals of the Cacophony Society through his novels ...
