the narrator
"AFTER A NIGHT IN FIGHT CLUB, EVERYTHING IN THE REAL WORLD GETS THE VOLUME TURNED DOWN. NOTHING CAN PISS YOU OFF. YOUR WORD IS LAW, AND IF OTHER PEOPLE BREAK THAT LAW OR QUESTION YOU, EVEN THAT DOESN'T PISS YOU OFF." (49)
The narrator carries on through the novel as an anonymous insomniac. His nihilistic attitude towards the world inspires him unconsciously to start "Fight Club", an underground activity that pit two men against each other in a brawl. With the help of Tyler, he begins overcoming his insomnia, however, realizes later on in the novel that there is an even bigger threat, that not only applies to him, but to the rest of the world. Tyler's antics go way too far, and only the narrator can stop him from conquering the world. The narrator's characteristics could be considered to be nihilistic and damaged, but proves himself to be truly valiant by the end of the novel.

TYLER DURDEN
"THE LIBERATOR WHO DESTROYS MY PROPERTY IS FIGHTING TO SAVE MY SPIRIT. THE TEACHER WHO CLEARS ALL POSSESSIONS FROM MY PATH WILL SET ME FREE." (110)
Tyler Durden is certainly an interesting character. His very existence, in the novel, was extraordinary. He's introduced in the beginning of the plot after the narrator claims to have had visions of Tyler in his dreams before even meeting him. The way that he appeared, and accepted the narrator into his household was to be questioned, because the two of them barely knew each other, as they were still strangers to each other, specifically. Tyler was also responsible for starting Fight Club, which later evolved into Project Mayhem, acting as their leader. While Tyler did in fact help the narrator with his condition, his efforts turned out to be much more destructive negatively than beneficial. His character has shown to be extremely persuasive, as he changes the worldview of people on a national standpoint. This is demonstrated as organizations who would normally go against activities committed by Project Mayhem would actually support them, because even the police force has accepted and embraced Tyler's ideology. The plot twist of the novel reveals that Tyler does not actually exist as a person, but rather as a separate personality of the narrator. Tyler's character could be described as an alpha male, charismatic, and undoubtedly dangerous.

MARLA SINGER
"I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN. YOU'RE SUCH A FLAKE. YOU LOVE ME. YOU IGNORE ME. YOU SAVE MY LIFE, THEN YOU COOK MY MOTHER INTO SOAP."
The character of Marla Singer is also quite strange as well, and although she was just as damaged as the narrator, without her the Project Mayhem would have ended up taking over the entire world. Her character was necessary as she was the one who helped the narrator realize who Tyler Durden really was, whether she meant to or not.
Initially, she engaged in an affair with Tyler, after they spend the night when she needed help from killing herself over an overdose of pills. However, in order to protect his identity, Tyler made the narrator promise him that he would never talk about him with her. Therefore, due to the fact that the narrator had no recollection of having sexual intimacy with her, she was left confused whenever the narrator spoke to her as if he had no idea what was going on. This confusion was brought even further after Tyler left, and when the narrator finally broke his promise and spoke to her about him, where he was then basically referring to himself as the third person. Marla then calls him a "nutcase" and walks off, making the narrator wonder why she acted the way she did. It was through Marla that the narrator saves himself and the rest of society from world domination. Her character could be described as dissolute and passionate.
